When Wendy attended her initial appointment in November 2021, she was very down, she was still coming to terms with the loss of her partner, and she was struggling with her self-confidence. Wendy had provided 24-hour care until her partner had passed away. This had drained Wendy of energy. So much so that when she was first referred to the Restart programme with PeoplePlus she told her Employment Adviser that if it wasn’t for her children and grandchildren, she dreaded to think of what the outcome may have been.

Over time, and with patience and commitment, she completed development sessions with the Restart team at PeoplePlus. Within the sessions Wendy’s caring and compassionate nature shone through, and she helped several other participants with tasks they were struggling to complete. With gentle encouragement from Wendy, she helped them to succeed in their tasks as well.

Wendy completed a wide range of sessions which included:

Self-confidence

Self-awareness

Working with others

Reboot your CV

Transferable Skills

Effective Job-search

Identifying your Job

Wendy excelled in her sessions and pushed herself to a place where she felt confident to apply for jobs. Her final session with her Employment Advisor was “Interview Skills” where the Employment Advisor and a colleague conducted a mock interview with Wendy. The Employment Advisor also arranged interview clothing, and this, together with her newfound confidence, as well as valuable feedback from the mock interview, gave her all she needed to apply for a job at Poundland. The interview went well and she was offered the job.

Her Employment Advisor said "Her journey was amazing, her confidence was rebuilt, and she was 100% ready to re-join the workforce."

Wendy said “The Restart Scheme with PeoplePlus has changed my life”.
