Centre for Ageing Better names PeoplePlus an example of good practice in new report on supporting older disabled workers.

The Centre for Ageing Better has published Making Workplaces Work for Everyone: Employer Views on Supporting Older Disabled Workers and People with Long-term Health Conditions. The report explores how employers can better support older workers, Disabled people and those living with long-term health conditions to access, remain in and progress within employment.

PeoplePlus is featured in the report as one of three examples of good practice, following an interview that formed part of the research process.

Recognised for our approach to inclusion

The case study recognises PeoplePlus for building an age-friendly and inclusive workplace culture through visible leadership, wellbeing initiatives, peer support networks, manager development and practical support for colleagues.

It highlights the role of our CEO, Kenny Boyle as senior sponsor for our Age-friendly Employer Pledge commitment, and the range of peer-led networks available to colleagues, including a carers support group, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion champions, menopause cafes and peer-to-peer mental health support. The report also references our management academy, which supports aspiring, new and senior managers to have confident conversations about health and wellbeing, and the individual health support plans used in services with higher numbers of colleagues aged 55 and over.

“I'm pleased that this report recognises the importance of creating a workplace culture where conversations about health, wellbeing and support needs are normalised. The findings align closely with our organisational trademarks and with the work we deliver every day supporting people facing barriers, including older workers and those living with long-term health conditions.” Kenny Boyle, CEO, PeoplePlus

Why it matters

PeoplePlus signed the Age-friendly Employer Pledge earlier this year, and this recognition builds on that commitment. The report is published against the backdrop of the Government's Keep Britain Working review, which is focused on reducing health-related economic inactivity and testing employer-led approaches to healthier, more inclusive workplaces.
