This Skills Bootcamp is designed to help you gain the skills, knowledge and qualifications needed to work as an HGV driver.

Delivered by LearningPlus, the programme provides structured training, practical experience and support throughout - with a guaranteed job interview at the end.

What the HGV Skills Bootcamp includes

This programme is part of the Government’s Lifetime Skills Guarantee and is funded through the Department for Education.

It is designed to support individuals to:

Gain a Category C+E (articulated) HGV licence
Build practical driving skills
Prepare for employment as a professional driver
Move into work quickly and confidently

Who this programme is for

The HGV Skills Bootcamp is suitable for:

Individuals who are currently unemployed and receiving benefits
Participants in Restart or JETS programmes
Individuals looking to move into a driving career
Employees whose employer can offer them a new driving role upon completion

No prior HGV experience is required.

Eligibility criteria

To take part in this programme, you will need to meet the following requirements:

Right to work in the UK
Full UK car driving licence
No more than 6 penalty points
No history of disqualification for serious driving offences
Willingness to work as an HGV driver after completing the course
Ability to pass a DVSA medical
Eyesight meeting DVLA standards (with or without correction)
Any medical conditions must be well managed and assessed as part of eligibility

Initial Checks: You will be required to pass the medical and apply for a provisional licence. You will also be required to train and complete your theory driving tests.

Classroom & Virtual Training: This mix of training will help to make sure you can complete the course and fit it in around your current commitments.

Practical Driver Training: You will be given all the knowledge and practical skills you need to successfully pass your practical test, whilst under the guidance of our expert driving instructors. This can take around 1-2 weeks.

Dedicated Learning Advisor: You will be assigned a learning advisor who will be on hand to offer support and guidance throughout the course.

Job Interview: Your participation in the Skills Bootcamp in HGV Driving guarantees you an interview with an employer, helping you secure a driving job as soon as possible.
