Partnering with The Dusty Knuckle Bakery

This month Abi and Chloe from our Engagement & Resettlement Team at YOI Werrington visited The Dusty Knuckle, a purpose-driven bakery and café located in London’s Dalston and Harringay neighbourhoods, to understand how the bakery can support young people leaving custody from YOI Werrington.
The Dusty Knuckle provides a nurturing, non-judgmental environment focused on skill-building and mentorship. Their training programme is for 18-25-year-olds who face barriers to employment, many of whom are young offenders. Participants gain experience in areas such as bakery, front-of-house operations, and kitchen work. Upon completing the programme, they are supported with job placements through The Dusty Knuckle’s extensive employer network across London.
Charlie, who oversees the programme, shared numerous success stories and highlighted the structured yet personalised nature of the training, including creating individualised trainee plans that align with participants’ aspirations and future goals.
Working together, the Engagement & Resettlement Team at Werrington will identify suitable young people from Werrington to refer to The Dusty Knuckle’s programme upon their release. The Dusty Knuckle team will also deliver workshops at YOI Werrington for boys who are interested in career opportunities in hospitality and bakery.
Abi noted, “The Dusty Knuckle will be a really positive contact for us. Their holistic approach aligns perfectly with our goal of supporting young people in their journey toward rehabilitation and reintegration.” Chloe added, “I’d highly recommend this programme for any young people on my caseload. It’s a fantastic opportunity to build skills and confidence in a supportive environment.”
