International Day of Charity
Friday 5 September is International Day of Charity, a chance to celebrate the many ways we can give back to our communities. Overall, volunteering contributes around £25bn to the UK economy, and PeoplePlus is one of the organisations helping to drive that effort.
Our Corporate Charities
We’re proud to support three corporate charities:
- Amber’s Army – a Norfolk-based family charity aiming to “Create Rainbows in the Darkest of Days” for families with a child diagnosed with terminal cancer.
- Women’s Aid – the national charity working to end domestic abuse against women and children.
- RISE UP – a charity helping young people, especially those facing barriers to employment, to access and succeed in life-changing career opportunities.
Volunteering to Make a Difference
Every PeoplePlus colleague has the opportunity to take a paid volunteering day each year to support a charity – whether that’s one of our chosen partners or a cause close to their own heart.
Our colleagues have used their volunteering days in many different ways, including:
- Delivering an IT course for a youth group
- Litter picking at a local nature reserve
- Helping with a gardening project at a care home
- Taking part in a sponsored fundraising event
- Dog walking at a rescue centre
- Supporting elderly community members with travel
- Helping at a local food bank
- Learning to deliver group therapy
- Chatting with residents at a care home over tea and coffee
Since May, the number of colleagues booking their volunteering day has doubled – and their stories are inspiring others to get involved too.
We also work closely with strategic partners and charitable organisations as part of our Social Recruitment Advocacy Group (SRAG) network, including Action for Deafness, Age UK, Mothers into Work, RNIB, and Walking With The Wounded. These partnerships help us provide support and advice in the workplace while building stronger, more inclusive communities.
Why this day matters
The International Day of Charity is a powerful reminder that small actions add up to real change. Whether it’s giving time, fundraising, or simply showing support, every contribution makes a difference. At PeoplePlus, we’re proud of the way our colleagues are using their volunteering days to bring that spirit of generosity to life.
As we mark this global day, we encourage everyone to think about how they can get involved and support a cause that is important to them.
