How Andy Got His Confidence and His Future Back
After seven years out of work, Andy didn’t just feel unemployed, he felt stuck. His confidence was at rock bottom, motivation was gone, and he was spending the majority of his days staring at four walls. He knew something had to change but taking that first step felt massive.
That changed when Andy joined the Restart Scheme in late 2024 and met his Employment Advisor, Kelsie. The goal wasn’t just to find work, it was to help Andy get his life moving again. Together, they talked about what Andy enjoyed, what got him out of the house, and what could rebuild his confidence, one step at a time.
A volunteering role at the British Heart Foundation became the first step. With extra encouragement from Kelsie and in-house tutor Michelle, who even went along with Andy to meet the manager, he landed the role and started volunteering in May 2025. For Andy, it wasn’t just a shift in routine; it was a shift in mindset.
Since then, things have only moved forward. Andy’s thrown himself into confidence workshops, built his interview skills, and, for the first time in years, felt connected to people again, not just in work settings, but in his personal life too. The team helped him see the value he brings, and Andy started seeing it for himself.
Now, there’s real momentum. His line manager at the British Heart Foundation spotted his commitment and put him forward for a paid role. Andy’s application is in, and while the result’s still to come, the transformation is already clear. Andy is back to feeling capable, connected, and ready for work.
Andy’s story isn’t just about finding a job. It’s about rediscovering his confidence, his routine, and his value. And that’s real success.
