When Rosin was first referred to our Restart office in Cwmbran, she had massive confidence and anxiety issues. This resulted in her struggling with communicating well and completing interviews. Her CV also needed a lot of improving. It needed shortening and the content needed reviewing to make sure it was relevant to potential employers. Rosin was volunteering on a Tuesday with citizens advice, and she was also a home carer for her Nan on a Wednesday. The home carer role was a particular barrier when looking for work. Rosin also had concerns around balancing her social life and a full time job. Rosin had only ever worked in temporary jobs and had never had the luck of getting a full-time, permanent job since graduating in May 2019.

After initially working with Rosin, she was put forward for a few small part time job interviews in retail. Both Rosin and her Employment Advisor, Katie, agreed this would be a good place to start due to her confidence and communication problems. Unfortunately, because of the barriers she had alongside her commitments to her volunteering and her caring role, she was unsuccessful. Katie had an honest conversation during a face-to-face meeting with Rosin about her priorities, such as employment or volunteering. They were then able to plan how they could work together so she could achieve everything she wanted to as well as manage her diary efficiently.

Our in-house Tutor, Gwen Richards, then offered Rosin some training sessions around interview preparation and techniques. Gwen went through a lot of information with her including how to answer the questions well and the type of information employers are looking for. To aid with Rosin’s anxiety she was referred to MIND active monitoring scheme which Rosin engaged in and found helpful.

After the support from Gwen, Rosin felt confident to apply for a customer adviser role. Everyone who had been supporting Rosin agreed putting her forward for this role would be ideal for her as it would give her the opportunity to increase her customer service and admin skills at the same time. Rosin was able to change the day and time she was caring for her Nan and agreed that her social life and visiting her boyfriend could be worked around a Monday to Friday job. Katie also worked on Rosin’s CV with her so that she was able to learn what the benefits of updating her CV regularly are. It also showed her why certain parts are important and to identify what content was relevant, depending on the role she was applying for. These are skills Rosin can use going forward as her career progresses.

Rosin was offered an interview which was successful, and she was offered a full-time position.

Her Employment Advisor said:

“The Serco remote customer service role being offered to Rosin is a great outcome for her as this is her first full time permanent position and it offers everything she needs - great hours for her social life and great pay as she wants to look at moving out of her parents’ house. It provides Rosin with the confidence to realise she can achieve her goals if she puts in the work and keeps at it.

Rosin is looking forward to working full time and being able to focus on her artwork and her illustration Instagram account on weekends. The goal is for this to help her progress to working in a tattoo parlour.”
