Celebrating International Volunteer Day 2025
Recognising the power of giving back and the colleagues making it happen
Friday 5 December marks International Volunteer Day, a global celebration of the people and organisations making a difference through giving their time, skills, and energy to help others.
At PeoplePlus, we believe volunteering is one of the most meaningful ways to create stronger communities and build confidence, purpose, and connection. That’s why every colleague is encouraged to take a paid volunteering day each year to support a cause that matters to them, whether that’s one of our chosen corporate charities or something closer to home.
Our corporate charities
We’re proud to support three incredible charities:
- Amber’s Army – a Norfolk-based family charity helping to “Create Rainbows in the Darkest of Days” for families with a child diagnosed with terminal cancer.
- Women’s Aid – the national charity working to end domestic abuse against women and children.
- RISE UP – a charity helping young people, particularly those facing barriers to employment, to access and succeed in life-changing career opportunities.
Volunteering variety
Across the UK, our colleagues have been making a real difference, with nearly 500 people using their volunteering days to offer everything from professional expertise to hands-on community support. Activities have included:
- Providing specialist advice and report writing for a disability charity
- Walking rescued retired greyhounds
- Transcribing audio interviews for a local heritage project
- Organising a charity golf tournament
- Supporting a local charity with photography services
- Helping young people on an educational farm visit
- Spending time with residents in a care home over tea and conversation
Every contribution, big or small, helps strengthen the communities we live and work in. Volunteering brings new perspectives, new skills, and a sense of connection that benefits the volunteer, the charity, and their community.
Previously we’ve shared an insight into some of the other benefits of volunteering, especially when it comes to career opportunities, developing skills, and gaining experience.
As we celebrate International Volunteer Day, we want to say thank you to all the volunteers across the UK who make a difference every day, and to our own PeoplePlus colleagues who use their time to give something back.
Because when people come together to support others, everyone benefits.
