James's Journey to Stability and Success

James joined the Fair Start Scotland programme, facing uncertainty after the loss of a temporary job. With his partner expecting their first child, James was determined to create a stable future for his growing family. The challenges of becoming a new parent while navigating the job market were not easy, but James was determined to persevere.
From the beginning, James received steadfast support from Maggie, his dedicated key worker. Despite the occasional challenges in maintaining engagement due to his parental responsibilities, Maggie consistently stayed in touch, understanding his evolving needs, and offering guidance when it was needed most.
James's journey wasn’t without its hurdles. Maggie identified a Warehouse Operative role at Failte Foods. While James was successful in securing the position, the demanding shifts proved to be difficult to balance with his family life. However, James took a positive step forward by exploring scaffolding as a new career path. Recognising his determination, Maggie acted quickly, securing him a last-minute training spot and full funding for the course through the Fair Start Scotland programme.
James thrived in the training, earning his scaffolding qualification and completing a CSCS course shortly after. Within five months of joining Fair Start Scotland, he had secured a scaffolding role. Unfortunately, the challenging seasonal weather and health and safety regulations made the job less suitable for James. But his confidence had grown significantly by this point, and he was determined not to give up.
Encouraged by Maggie, James took the initiative to approach his local Aldi and was offered a position. Though the role provided another step forward, its demanding nature made it difficult for James to find a balance between work and family. Maggie then found the perfect match for James at Stax Trade Centre. This position allowed him to truly thrive, and his hard work and dedication were recognised by the management team. James earned a well-deserved promotion to Supervisor.
Although James's journey hasn't been the smoothest, he never left a position without ensuring the next step was in place, and Maggie was there every step of the way, offering guidance, opportunities, and understanding.
James’s continued success and growth both personally and professionally show the incredible impact of the Fair Start Scotland programme. As he continues to share updates on his career and family life, his message of gratitude speaks volumes about the difference a key worker can make.
