Despite facing numerous challenges, including temporary homelessness and poor mental health, Miss Ngalu has emerged stronger and more determined, after being supported through Fair Start Scotland.

Referred to Fair Start Scotland at a difficult time, Miss Ngalu found hope and stability through the unwavering support of her Key Worker, Maggie. Miss Ngalu, who had been grappling with poor mental health and was receiving counselling for PTSD was finding life an uphill battle. Recognising the importance of both practical and emotional support, Maggie collaborated closely with Miss Ngalu’s mental health team to ensure she received the care she needed.

One of the critical turning points was when Maggie tackled the housing crisis that loomed over Miss Ngalu. She organised a flat viewing, which ultimately led to a place Miss Ngalu could call her own, providing her with the stability and security she needed to thrive.

With her living situation stabilised, Maggie and Miss Ngalu turned their focus on employment. They conducted thorough job searches, refined applications, and carefully calculated the financial benefits of potential roles to ensure sustainable employment.

After a rigorous interview process, Miss Ngalu’s determination paid off as she secured a supervisor role at Merkur Slots. Now thriving, six weeks into her new role, she continues to flourish with ongoing support from the In Work Support team.

Miss Ngalu’s journey is a powerful reminder that with the right guidance and encouragement, even the most difficult barriers can be overcome, leading to a brighter and more stable future.
