Finding the Right Fit Around Family: Whitney’s Restart Scheme Journey

Whitney joined the Restart Scheme at PeoplePlus several months ago after finding it challenging to secure work alongside her childcare responsibilities. Bringing strong experience from the retail and hair and beauty sectors, she was keen to use her transferable skills and confidently return to employment after time spent raising her child.

With the guidance of her Employment Advisor, Whitney refreshed her CV, strengthened her job search approach, and regularly attended Job Club sessions. These sessions helped her understand the current job market and what employers look for, while also building her confidence and motivation.

Whitney was then made aware of an exciting opportunity by the Employer Relationships Manager (ERM) in the Tonbridge office, linked to a major retail store opening in Tonbridge Wells. The role offered flexible hours that suited her location and childcare commitments. The ERM supported Whitney throughout the application process and interview preparation, including an information session covering the retailer’s expectations and mock retail-based interviews. Whitney said these sessions made a real difference - boosting her confidence, helping her understand the role in detail, and enabling her to perform strongly at interview and secure the job.

Whitney is now thriving in her new position, and the feedback from her employer has been overwhelmingly positive. She shared her sincere appreciation for the consistent, tailored support she received from PeoplePlus through the Restart Scheme, from building her employability tools to preparing for interview success.
