Sharing Leila's Success with M Group Services
By the time Leila met Rachel Carpenter, Employment Advisor on the Ashford Restart team, health problems, including recent surgery, meant she had been unemployed for almost a year. It was December 2021, midwinter, and she was not feeling hopeful about her prospects of finding a part-time job that would be compatible with her recovery.
Leila wanted to work but her confidence had been knocked and she was understandably anxious about finding a job she could sustain. Rachel knew that Arutha Treharne, Employer Relationship Manager, could connect Leila with working from home vacancies via the Social Recruitment Framework. Together they were able to begin a process that would turn things around for Leila.
By March 2022, Leila had been offered a full-time position with Morrison Water Services, part of M Group Services. The role of Customer Advisor on the Thames Valley contract was able to be done from home – which was exactly what Leila needed to safeguard her health, and she would be given training to make sure she could flourish in the role.
Its easy to underestimate what Leila had done to get and accept this full-time job offer, and the many decisions Rachel, Arutha, the PeoplePlus Employer Engagement team leadership, the SRF team, and crucially, Morrisons Water Services, had made to help make it happen.
Leila had accepted feedback on her CV and been challenged with coaching support to prepare for interviews. Rachel had built Leila’s confidence and listened to what she really needed to move forward, encouraging her to believe she could do a full time job. Arutha had made sure Rachel knew about the vacancies available via the SRF teams' regular updates, spotted those that could be right for Leila, and had shared his understanding of Morrison Water Services to give Leila an edge. James Edwards, Strategic Account Manager, led by Liz Squire, Head of Employer Management, had listened to M Group Service’s needs, and PeoplePlus had been trusted by them to help find people who would add value to their organisation. And that is the simple version!
What Leila did at a point where her resilience was at its lowest ebb takes trust and energy, which is why Morrisons Water Services has been such a brilliant destination for her – they really get social recruitment and why it matters.
Jen Goldsworthy, M Group Services’ Resourcing Manager for the Water Division, said: “Our partnership with PeoplePlus has been fantastic. We have been working with social recruitment partners to provide opportunities to candidates who may have struggled to find employment elsewhere, be it from lack of experience or finding it hard to get back into work after a period of unemployment.
“We want to make a difference and collaborating with PeoplePlus has enabled us to do so.”
Elizabeth Squire, Head of employer Engagement at PeoplePlus, said: “M Group Services has supported Leila to work remotely and given her thorough training to overcome any obstacles when dealing with customers. The future is bright for candidates like Leila, who have the courage to deal with their barriers to employment.”
Leila keeps in touch. It’s great to know she is continuing to do well and knows she has our continued support – as she says, “I am enjoying my role and it is convenient working from home. I look forward to what’s next in my career.”
So do we, Leila!
