Employer talks to Cwmbran learners about opportunities within her business
Julie Thorn from Customise 'R' Us visited PeoplePlus Cwmbran yesterday to speak to the learners about placements at her business. Customise 'R' Us produce personalised workwear, clothing and accessories. They embroider and print quality workwear, promotional clothing and accessories for businesses and individuals.
Julie told the learners that the factory in Cwmbran, South Wales, supply and deliver custom and embroidered T-shirts, hoodies, bodywarmers, polo shirts and vehicle ‘wraps’ (personalised logos on cars and vans).
She explained that to start with the learners would be shown how to cut out logos and letters efficiently, to use the machinery safely, how to keep their workstations clean, how to measure accurately and an important element is inventory and stocktaking. There is also a shop at the front of the workshop enabling learners to work in a customer facing role, gaining customer service experience. In addition, social media is essential to promote the business so the learners would have the opportunity to work on their digital skills too.
Julie has already had a number of learners from us. Recently she has employed one of our learners who completed a Level 1 Warehousing and Storage on a placement. Now, as an employee of Customise R Us, he is completing his Level 2 Apprenticeship with PeoplePlus.
Debbie Griffin, PeoplePlus Regional Business Lead for Jobs Growth Wales+ said:
"Working with Julie and Customise 'R' Us gives our learners great opportunities to gain a wide range of experience. We look forward to working more with Julie in the future."
