Access to Work

Access to Work is a nationwide programme which supports people with a health condition or disability in the workplace.

If you’re disabled or have a physical or mental health condition that makes it hard for you to do your job, you can talk to your employer about making some changes in your workplace. You can also apply for help from Access to Work funding if you need any extra support.

We're looking to work with organisations like:

  • Be in work, or about to start work
  • Have a disability or health condition (physical or mental) that makes it hard for you to do parts of your job or get to and from work
  • Be 16 or over
  • Live in England, Scotland or Wales – there is a different system in Northern Ireland

You’ll be offered support based on your needs, which may include a grant to help cover the costs of practical support in the workplace.


An Access to Work grant can pay for:

The money doesn’t have to be paid back and won’t affect your other benefits, however it’s important to understand that you may not get a grant if you already receive certain benefits.

If you apply for Access to Work and your Access to Work Advisor believes an assessment in your workplace would be beneficial, they will request a Holistic Assessment.

We work in partnership with Momentum (Scotland), RBLI (across England and Wales) and Assistive Technology & Training Ltd (in England) to deliver these Holistic Assessments across Britain on behalf of the Department for Work and Pensions.

Our highly trained assessors will meet you, usually in your workplace, and discuss the issues you are experiencing in relation to your health condition or disability. We’ll complete a Needs Assessment Report which will include any recommendations for support to help you to perform your job role and working duties.
