What is a Traineeship?

Traineeships combine education and training with work experience to prepare young people for work. They’re a great way to develop the skills and experience that employers are looking for.

Why choose Traineeships?

> Flexible training

To prepare you for work, such as such job search and interview skills, time-keeping and working in a team. This may also include a vocational qualification such as Business Administration, Customer Service, Retail and more depending on interests and your work placement.

> High quality work placement

You can learn all about what’s expected of you in the workplace, gain practical skills and make connections with local employers

> Get the basics right

Improve your English and maths skills (if needed) which employers find essential in any candidate

> Career prospects

Many traineeships lead to a permanent role that can include an apprenticeship.

How it works

Our traineeships consist of three core elements, with the possibility to tailor the content to your own specific needs or those of the employer providing the work experience:

  • work preparation training
  • work placement with local employer
  • English and maths support, as needed

A traineeship can last for between 6 weeks and 6 months. A typical PeoplePlus traineeship lasts for eight weeks. You will spend part of the time in a work placement which is planned carefully with the employer to ensure it provides you with valuable experience and supports the qualification you will be working towards. The rest of the time will be spent studying with fellow trainees towards achieving the qualifications and certificates included in your course.

Whilst Traineeships are unpaid we will be happy to cover any travel and meal costs. Additional funding may also be available depending on your individual circumstances. To find out more, speak to one of our dedicated advisors in your local branch.

Application Process

Each traineeship course will have a maximum of 15 places available. As an applicant, you will be required to complete an interview process followed by initial assessment of your maths and English skills.

Based on the interview and the outcome of the results our tutor will make a recommendation on whether you have been accepted on to the course.
